Mas Foulaquier ‘Terre Rose’ Rouge 2020
Location: France, Languedoc-Roussillon, Pic-Saint-Loup
Winemakers: Pierre Jéquier & Blandine Chauchet
Grapes: Alicante Bouschet
From us at M&L: Pierre Jéquier and Blandine Chauchet work, side by side with their Nubian goats, about 10hectares of different varieties (Syrah, Grenache, Carignan, Alicante Bouchet etc) in highest, most northerly end of the Languedoc. The wines seem to defy convention (and maybe gravity) as they walk the tightrope between rusticated and absolutely finessed.
The ‘Terre Rose’ is about as pretty as it gets: all the bright, red-fleshed Alicante juice is amplified by wind and altitude; the texture is thirst quenching; the aromas and flavors are filigreed (rose petals, berries, herbs, savory spices). If you’ve ever had the pleasure of l’Anglore Tavel this will speak to you, and if you simply like beautiful things this will speak to you, too.
