Huguenot Bourgogne Côte d’Or Rouge 2021
Location: France, Burgundy, Givry
Winemaker: Philippe Huguenot
Grapes: Pinot Noir
Soil: limestone
Winemaking: aged in tank for 12 months
Bourgogne Rouge: 100% Pinot Noir from 35-50 year old vines. Intense in colour, with an expressive bouquet of red (morello cherry, strawberry) and black fruits (blackcurrant, blueberry). The taste is powerful and full-bodied and mellows to a rich finish with good length. The freshness and fruitiness of this wine gores well with appetizers, grilled poultry, or roast beef and served with various vegetables. Light soft cheeses will also enhance it.
From the Importer D.B. Wine: The Huguenots can trace their history in Marsannay and working in the vines back to 1789. Two generations ago Domaine Huguenot was quite modest in size. Philippe Huguenot’s grandparents ran a domaine of just two-three hectares. It was Philippe’s father, Jean-Louis Huguenot, who began buying more land. During his years at the helm of the domaine – from 1968 to 1993 – it grew to 17 hectares.
Currently the domaine is run by Philippe. He has taken the bold step of taking all twenty-two hectares (twelve in Marsannay, six in Fixin, and four in Gevrey) into organic production (the conversion was completed in 2010). They obtained the Ecocert certification in 2013
We are working the soils like an « Haute couture » manufacturer. We do everything by hands in the vineyards. We let the wines express their “terroir” the most natural way possible.
