Clos Thierrière ‘Les Murs’ Vouvray Blanc 2021
Location: France, Loire, Vouvray
Winemaker: Guillaume (& Baptiste) Frey
Grapes: Chenin Blanc
Soil: Red Clay
Winemaking: Hand harvest, native yeast fermentation. Direct press in stainless. Aged a minimum 12 months in barriques.
This parcel, with a surface area of less than one hectare, is located on the southern slope of the Vernou-Sur-Brenne commune and is comprised of a thin layer of top soil over tuffeau bedrock. Some of the vines in this parcel are almost a hundred years old. Named after the tuffeau walls that are visible when you stand on the plot and look west towards one of the appellation's slopes.
From the Importer Steven Graf: Twin brothers with a business background fell in love with winemaking during the pandemic under the tutelage of Vincent Carême. They purchased 12 hectares in Vernou-Sur-Brenne amongst a few neighboring natural wine makers and have produced a wonderfully successful first and second vintage of AOC Vouvray.
