Winemaking: The bunches, which have been selected and collected in baskets, are sorted. Thanks to some natural yeast, spontaneous fermentation takes place in wooden barrels. During fermentation one sole fulling process ( batonage) is carried out. Wine fermentation can last from 6 to 9 weeks, then wine is aged in wooden barrels for about 30/36 months. No oenological intervention is applied during the cellar phase, not even any SO2 is used.

’Achille’: Aromas of milk chocolate and cherries, rich and fruited with present tannin and a long, piquant finish. The name ‘Achille’ comes from the former owner of this vineyard.

From the Winemaker: It is located in the area of Costigliole d’Asti (250 m above the sea level), The vineyard was planted around 1928 with mostly different biotypes of Barbera and Nebbiolo. The breeding type is mostly on espaliers even if some plants are gobelet breeded. In the vegetative time, thanks to current structures, the plants are located so as to avoid any topping and to make the leaves grow longer until the end of the season. The harvest season is one of the most difficult time of the year for our wines. The grape harvesting is done by hand by means of a strict grape selection.

From the Importer VeroVino: ‘It was like a dream’, said Lorenzo. ‘You have to dream to grow up. Do not worry what people are talking about you. Mainly you have to dream to reach a specific goal. I was really lucky.’

Lorenzo Corini was the fifth generation of a grower-maker wine family with the sixth generation, his son Guido and daughter Luisa, who have taken the helm. Based in Costigliole d’Asti in Piedmont, situated between Alba and Asti, they cultivate Nebbiolo, Barbera as well as other native varietals, such as Balsamino, a very healthy variety with high levels of reservatol. Lorenzo knew how important it was to adopt sustainable and regenerative organic practices on and off the vineyard for the sake of a balanced ecosystem. He was also advisor and mentor to biodynamic winery and olive oil producer La Maliosa on Tuscany. In addition, he published over 90 scientific publications on viticulture, including his memoir Vineyards, Wine, Life: My Natural Thoughts published in 2016.

Lorenzo passed away in 2021, but his children carry on the dream, and his contributions to the wine industry will not be forgotten.
